How long will the Photographer be present to photograph?

Typically, I will arrive 1 hour prior to the bride leaving for the ceremony to photograph the wedding preparation. This is a great way to begin the story of your day. Within reason, I will photograph the day's events until the first couple of dances or the cutting of the cake. This amounts to a maximum of 8 hours of photographic coverage.

How many pictures does the Photographer take?

This depends on the size of the wedding. On average, I shoot 20 to 25 rolls of film for each wedding. This amounts to approximately 800+ exposures. As each wedding is uniquely different from the next, I will photograph as much as I feel necessary to capture the great moments of your day. Due to the extra festivities in Greek and Jewish weddings, I tend to photograph about 30 to 35 rolls to cover the array of events.

Black & White or Color?

I photograph an approximate breakdown of 50/50 between Black & White and Color film. The exact breakdown depends largely on the actual location, weather and lighting conditions. I also use my judgement to determine the best photographic aesthetic for the subject matter. (i.e. Floral arrangements are usually photographed in color..etc.) However, if you have a particular preference over the ratio of B&W and Color film, please feel free to inform me prior to the wedding.

Group Shots / Formal Shots?

The amount of time and schedule of these shots will be discussed with you prior to the wedding. It is advisable to allocate a special time and location for these pictures to minimize interruptions to your wedding. It is important to coordiante this beforehand to ensure that your preferred guests and family members will be present during the photographing of the Group Pictures.

What is a Self-Portrait Studio?

This is a self functioning mini studio set-up with lighting and backdrop (where appropriate). In the absence of a photographer, your guests will be able to pose and take their own pictures using a remote control shudder, encouraging less inhibited poses and offers added fun to the wedding party.

Does the Photographer bring an Assistant?

This depends on the scale of your wedding. For weddings with 200+ guests, I would normally recommend this option to the couple. By bringing an assistant, it also allows me to bring extra equipment (such as medium format cameras, studio set up...etc.) and ensure that I can cover the extensive array of events throughout the day as well.

What is a Contact Sheet?

This is a 9.5x12 inch photographic print showing every frame taken within a roll of film. Enlarged Contact Sheets are 16x20 inch in size and each frame is shown at 3 times the original frame size. Jumbo size Contact Sheets, 20x24 inch are also available at extra cost.

What is "Hand Printed"?

Hand printing includes all necessary cropping, burning, dodging and various specialized darkroom printing concerns for optimal quality of the final print. The "hand print" shows a marked difference in picture quality over a "machine print". Due to the film format, all panoramic prints can only be hand printed. Smallest size available for panoramic prints are printed on 8x10 inch printing paper, with a full frame image size of 9.5x3.75 inch.

RC Prints or Fiber Based Prints?

RC (resin coated) paper is single weight polyester based photographic paper and not conventionally treated in 'archival' in the Photographic Arts World. Fiber Based prints are double weight and 100% archival. They are traditonally used for albums and exhibition style wall-prints. These are the best in quality but for most general purposes, such as gifts to family members and friends, the RC print is a more economic alternative with little noted difference in quality.

What is a Panoramic Shot?

This is done with a real panoramic camera (not just a wide angle lens) that will capture a full 136 degrees of viewing angle. The camera operates on a cylindrical design in which the lens rotates over 136 degrees. The result can be sensational, capturing the full decor and atmosphere within each picture. Due to the format of the panoramic negative, these pictures cannot be machine printed and contact sheets will be provided for you to choose your reprints from. All panoramic reprints will be hand printed.

What are the on-site requirements for the Photographer?

Due to the long working day (12+ hours easy including travel time), it is necessary for a hot meal to be provided for the Photographer (and assistant if applicable). Arrangements should be made with the catering staff in advance to avoid confusion during the wedding banquet. This should be timed with the guests' meal so that no photo opportunities will be missed while the Photographer eats for 15 mintues.

Does the Photographer travel?

Yes. I have frequently been commissioned to photograph weddings ranging from Tokyo to Italy to New York. There is no surcharge for weddings in Europe, North America and Asia. However, it is the responsibility of the client/couple to cover all travel related expenses such as Flight/Train tickets, lodging, car rentals...etc. Frequently, and especially with North America, this works out to be more economical than hiring a local based photographer of similar quality standards.
